Four-tier condition scale

Grade the instrument.
Then show the evidence.

A condition label is a summary, not a substitute for disclosure. Photograph and describe every material mark, repair, modification, functional issue, and missing original part.

Choose conservatively

The lowest accurate grade wins.

If cosmetic appearance suggests one grade but function, repair history, or originality suggests another, select the lower grade and explain why. Age alone does not excuse undisclosed wear.

01 · Mint

No visible use

Exceptionally clean, fully functional, and without visible wear. Any missing original item, modification, repair, or handling mark must be disclosed and may require a lower grade.

Show: every surface, controls, contact points, serial area, and included originals.
02 · Excellent

Minimal careful use

Fully functional with only slight, hard-to-notice evidence of use. No material playability issue. Describe even minor marks rather than relying on the grade.

Show: close-ups of the small signs that separate it from Mint.
03 · Very Good

Light honest wear

Fully usable with visible but limited cosmetic wear from regular care. Minor scratches, dings, finish wear, or serviced components are photographed and explained.

Show: wear zones, repairs, replaced parts, and current setup.
04 · Good

Visible regular use

Functional, with substantial cosmetic wear or service needs that do not prevent intended use. Every limitation and recommended service item belongs in the description.

Show: all damage, corrosion, worn parts, structural areas, and function evidence.

Before selecting a grade

Run the same four checks.

FunctionTest the complete playing system

Electronics, keys, valves, pads, hardware, mechanisms, controls, and connections as applicable.

StructureLook past cosmetic wear

Check cracks, seams, neck joints, braces, posts, solder, warping, alignment, and prior structural repair.

OriginalityIdentify modifications and replacements

State what is original, changed, unknown, repaired, refinished, or professionally serviced.

EvidenceMake the flaw easy to find

Pair plain-language disclosure with a close-up and a wider image showing location and scale.
