Drums & Percussion on The Exchange
Acoustic kits, snares, cymbals, and mallet percussion — every listing reviewed.
Drums are built to take a beating, but bearing edges, shell integrity, and hardware condition still matter enormously. Our condition assessment covers shell condition, bearing edges, hardware, and included heads.
The bearing edge is where the drumhead contacts the shell. Even small nicks can cause buzzing and tone loss. Recut bearing edges cost $50-100 per drum. Our condition assessment rates edge condition.
Maple is warm and versatile. Birch is punchy with more attack. Metal shells (steel, brass, copper, aluminum) each have distinct characteristics. Vintage shells often use different plywood layups than modern drums.
Unlike drums, cymbals often sound better with age as the metal work-hardens. Vintage Zildjian and Paiste cymbals are highly sought after. Check for cracks — cymbal cracks are terminal.
